The Jesse Tree is a symbolic way of depicting the story of God's love and action in the lives of his people throughout the centuries.

Making a Jesse Tree is an Advent activity that helps us to learn about Jesus' ancestry.  The tree is decorated with a symbolic ornament on each day of Advent.  The ornaments are of people, prophesies and events from The Old Testament leading up to Jesus' birth.

The Jesse Tree is named after Jesse, who was the father of King David and describes a prophecy for a new beginning to spring from the origin from which David and his dynasty arose

The name comes from Scripture:

"But a shoot shall sprout from the        stump of Jesse, and from his roots       a bud shall blossom" (Isaiah 11:1).
